The Building Act 1993 requires most people who work in building to be registered as building practitioners with the Building Practitioners Board (BPB). A registered building practitioner (RBP) is generally required to carry the appropriate insurance to provide consumers with better protection. The BPB registers individuals not companies or businesses.?
The Victorian Building Authority (VBA) is the regulator of the building, plumbing and (from July 2014) architecture industries, providing domestic building consumer protection and ensuring the safety, liveability and sustainability of the built environment.
